Ingredients
- White bread6 slices
- Eggs3 pcs
- Milk120 ml
- Sugar2 tbsp
- Vanilla extract1 tsp
- Cinnamon0.5 tsp
- Butter30 g
Instructions
- 1
In a wide, shallow bowl, crack the eggs and beat them with a fork until yolks and whites are fully mixed. Add milk, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon. Stir well.
Tip: A shallow bowl like a soup plate makes it much easier to dip the bread slices.
- 2
Heat a large non-stick pan over medium heat. Add half the butter and let it melt until it starts to foam.
Tip: Medium heat means the dial is roughly in the middle. If the butter burns and turns brown, the pan is too hot.
- 3
Take one bread slice and lay it flat in the egg mixture. Let it soak for 15 seconds, then flip and soak the other side for 15 seconds.
- 4
Place the soaked bread in the hot pan. Cook 2-3 minutes until the bottom turns golden brown. Flip with a spatula and cook 2 minutes on the other side. Repeat with remaining slices.
Tip: Peek at the underside by lifting a corner with the spatula. Golden brown is the target - not pale, not dark.

Serve immediately while warm. Top with honey, powdered sugar, fresh fruit or maple syrup.
Cooking methods
On the stove
Non-stick pan on medium heat (gas dial at 4–5). Melt butter until foaming. Cook 2–3 minutes per side. Gas gives quick flame control if bread browns too fast - reduce immediately.
On induction
Level 5–6. Preheat 2 minutes. Induction gives very even browning - every slice will look the same. Reduce one level after 2–3 slices as pan retains heat.
Over an open fire
Cast iron pan over medium embers. Adds a subtle smoky note that works beautifully with the cinnamon and vanilla. Watch carefully - bread chars quickly over open fire.
